Deputy Lee Bartholomew
Douglas County encourages responsible pet ownership, including compliance with state and local laws and spaying/neutering of dogs and cats
Douglas County Animal Control is currently staffed with one uniformed officer. The officer handles complaints and investigations throughout Douglas County. The records department staff provides dog licensing, receives complaints from the public and processes reports.
Douglas County Animal Control works in conjunction with other local law enforcement and health agencies, the Umpqua Valley Humane Society, Saving Grace Animal Shelter, and the Roseburg SPCA, to provide the community with necessary enforcement and education to provide for the welfare of all domestic animals.
Douglas County currently contracts the animal shelter to Saving Grace Animal Shelter. Our contract guarantees that the citizens of our county can take stray dogs and cats to the shelter without any fee. A small donation is appreciated to help defray shelter costs, but it is not required. For owner release animals, Saving Grace charges a nominal fee.
