Property Release

Property may be held by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for a variety of reasons including:

  • Found property
  • Recovered stolen property
  • Property seized as evidence
  • Property held for safe keeping

Property that is eligible for release, can only be released by appointment.  The Property and Evidence Manager works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Please call our Property and Evidence Manager, Kimm Barnes, at (541) 440-4460 to schedule an appointment.  The Property and Evidence Manager works out of several locations, so leave a message for a return call including a telephone number where you may be reached.  Providing information such as a case number, or date and time of incident will be extremely helpful.

Property will be released to the owner up to 60 days after a notice of release eligibility has been sent. After 30 days, the property will be auctioned, destroyed or otherwise appropriated. The owner should bring a copy of the property release eligibiblity notice and proper identification. If the owner is unable to pick up the property in person, the owner may assign a designee to pick it up on their behalf. The designee must have a letter signed by the owner stating the designee was appointed to pickup the property. The designee is required to provide proper identification when picking up the property.
