On January 22, 2012, at about 1545 hours, the 911 center received a call from four snowmobile riders who were stuck in the snow near Windigo Pass. They came from Crescent Lake (Lane County) with the intention of making a loop through the Diamond Lake area and back through Windigo Pass. Douglas County Communications was able to obtain a GPS location from the 911 call data. The riders were about 25 miles from Crescent Lake and 8 miles from Hwy 138 East in the Diamond Lake area.

Douglas County Search and Rescue dispatched two 4x4 units and the Sno-Cat to provide assistance. Search and Rescue reached the subjects via Sno-Cat at about 2015 hours and brought them out. A crew from Chemult Ambulance was standing by and treated Erica Dunn for Hypothermia. Chemult Ambulance gave the subjects a ride back to Chemult.

The subjects had a small amount of water and a few snacks but no survival gear. They were located at 5,155 feet elevation where there was 4 feet of snow.
