Incident Location: Douglas County, Oregon
Case Number: n/a
For the past several years, Douglas County Animal Control has attempted to educate the public on dog licensing laws by primarily issuing warning citations for dog licensing violations. Recently the Dog Control Advisory Board recommended that citations be issued because of a lack of compliance.
Beginning immediately, the owner of any unlicensed dog (over the age of 6 months), will be subject to citation. Previously, officers would issue warnings in an attempt to gain compliance with Oregon's dog licensing law. Dog owners were not following up and getting the licenses and the Sheriff's Office no longer has the Animal Control resources to verify compliance. The bail on a citation for an unlicensed dog is: $362.00 for an altered dog and $504.00 for an unaltered dog.
Dog licenses cost $6.00 per year for spayed or neutered dogs, and $25.00 per year for unaltered dogs. Dog licenses can be purchased at several locations in Douglas County including the Sheriff's Office in Roseburg. See our website for a complete list: http://dcso.com/ac_licensing.asp .
