On Wednesday, November 15th, 2012, around 0915 hours, Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Iverson Park, which is located along Coos Bay Wagon Road, on a report of a vehicle crash which involved a log truck.
Upon arrival, the deputies discovered that the crash involved a single vehicle, which was a fully loaded log truck. The truck went off the road way and lost its load of logs, which resulted in a blocked roadway. The truck had been operated by 47 year old Michael Ray of Myrtle Creek, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The preliminary investigation determined that it appeared that Ray had failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, lost control of the truck and then went off the roadway and down an embankment. The truck came to a stop on another section of the roadway, which was located below where the truck originally went off the roadway.
The roadway has been blocked for an extended period of time and crews were on scene working on clearing it. Ray’s next of kin have been notifed.
