Date/Time of Incident: 09/23/2013 - 11:45
Incident Location: Douglas County Sheriff's Office, 1036 SE Douglas Ave, Room 210, Roseburg, OR 97470
Case Number: N/A
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently recruiting for our Search and Rescue (SAR) Volunteer Unit. The adult volunteer program provides essential SAR services such as Ground Search, 4 X 4, Mountain Rescue, Search K9, Mounted, and Amateur Radio throughout Douglas County. We are also recruiting for our youth (ages 14 through 20) Explorer SAR team.
The SAR Volunteer Units respond to searches throughout the state and region. This requires members to have above average endurance and to feel comfortable in the great outdoors in extreme conditions. Searching can be very rewarding, but also very draining, both physically and emotionally. Our unit is also called upon to conduct evidence searches for major crimes including homicides.
Persons interested in volunteering for the program must be able to attend related training. Volunteers are trained in all aspects of search and rescue, including search techniques, land navigation, tracking, rescue and recovery, and first aid.
The first training session of the year will be Tuesday, October 8, 2012 at 7 PM in the Sheriff’s Office Conference Room located in room 210 of the Justice Building in Roseburg. There is no cost for the program and all training is provided free.
If you are interested in being a part of our Search and Rescue Volunteer Unit please contact Jerry Applegarth at (541)440-4498, firstname.lastname@example.org or visit us at our website at www.dcso.com.
