Vehicle: 1997 Ford f-150 pickup

On January 5th, 2014, the owner of a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup reported the truck and a single axle utility trailer had been stolen. The Roseburg Police Department began an investigation.

On January 21, 2014, at about 1830 hours, Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Sutherlin Police Department were following up on this case when they observed the vehicle being operated on Central Avenue in Sutherlin. The vehicle drove onto the northbound I-5 on-ramp and proceeded north.

The vehicle failed to yield to officers and a pursuit began. The vehicle continued driving northbound reaching speeds of 95 miles per hour.

Near milepost 162 the vehicle slowed down and a male passenger jumped from the vehicle. After a short foot pursuit Robert Garay was taken into custody. The vehicle stopped a short distance away after running out of gas. The driver, Tamara Hughes, was taken into custody without further incident.

Hughes was lodged in the county jail on Attempt to Elude, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Driving While Suspended and Probation Violation charges. Garay was lodged on Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and a Probation Violation out of Multnomah County.

Investigators later located the stolen utility trailer along with the pickup canopy and tools inside a shop at Hughes' residence in the 1600 block of Trails End Lane in Sutherlin.
